An extension of the validation suite functionality examines RSS feeds (initially configured for the SEC).  There is a tools RSS feeds entry, which allows one to configure which feed they’re interested in and what to do.

One can perform various validations (such as filer manual, XBRL 2.1, and calculation roll ups), and additionally watch for a regular expression appearing in text fields (such as “under audit”).  A selected formula linkbase can be run on each filing.

This is a good tool to experiment with XBRL formula, as now once can check for filings with various ratios and other issues of interest.  Set the assertion to be unsuccessful, and ask for an e-mail alert, and you’ll know on your cell phone when to examine a just-posted filing.
